My clients come to me for many reasons. Usually those reasons boil down to - they want healthy to be simple in their lives. Yes, we all have different goals and circumstances, but when healthy is simplified and supported real changes begin to happen that can lead to big results.
Most people I work with either "know what to do" and are struggling to implement what they think will help them be healthy, or they don't feel great and want help figuring out why. Usually at this point they are tired and are looking for guidance and support. The thing is, healthy doesn't have to be hard.
Let's walk through how a recent client (we'll call her Tessa) and I decided that Habits for Health (my signature 1:1 individualized program) was the best option for her right now.
Tessa gave me a call last fall after she received some troubling news from her doctor. Her blood markers for glucose were high, meaning she was on the path toward diabetes.
Freaked out by this prognosis Tessa asked her doctor for a little time before starting the medication recommended to help bring her blood glucose numbers "back to normal."
After that Tessa called me and told me what she was looking for. We discussed how I could help her and a few things she could implement right away. Excited by the ideas and the support she would receive in the program she signed up for Habits for Health.
I started to put together a plan of action but was waiting for the initial paperwork to make the program individually tailored to her (all clients begin with a current health assessment, and a health history).
Two weeks later I hadn't heard from Tessa, nor had I received any of the paperwork. That's strange I thought - she had been ready to get started getting those numbers down.
Another week went by before I was able to connect with her. Turns out life had gone sideways - work had blown up, her husband had been called into jury duty, and the holidays were quickly approaching. She knew that she wanted to work with me, but she just couldn't add one more thing to do.
However, she was inspired by the ideas from our initial conversation and thought she could make some progress on her own.
>>>>>>>>fast forward...
A couple months later I followed up just to check in and see how she was doing.
That's when I got the most incredible VM (I still have it saved actually - Tessa is just a gem, and this VM completely made my day).
Basically, she said...
“Hey Alison...I wanted to call you and say thanks so much for your email checking in on me. I am down to start our work together in January. I recently realized I was getting my deposit back on my office space and will use that $ to fund our work together. I just feel like your experience would help me rather than do too much trial and error on my own. I think you might be the perfect person to help. And I am happy to report that my A1c has come down just in the two months since we first spoke, so I really do feel like with diet and exercise I can get to good levels. I think the universe put us back in touch and I'm really looking forward to working with you. I need it and I'm ready.”
We scheduled our first call a few weeks later and the next four months we went on an amazing journey together of learning, trial and error, discovery, and deep self-care. I'll tell you the next part of the story next week.
