I've seen this word pop up over and over recently - PIVOT! According to Merriam-Webster the verb pivot means to adapt or improve by adjusting or modifying (an action or strategy).
When things don't go as planned or expected what do we do to get it done? Pivot. Again, and again until we get there. I know we've all had so much practice "pivoting" these past two years!
But today let's talk about pivoting in relation to keeping healthy simple for you.
Did you try recording your meals this past week? I'm curious what came up for you as you tried this exercise. If you haven't gotten there just yet, think back on the past several days. Where does it feel harder to keep healthy eating simple? Start there.
I've been keeping track myself, and here are a few things I've learned:
1) My Mondays are long, full days with work and kid's activities that go late. I need to have leftovers for dinner on this night. Super important! Otherwise, I'm grumpy, or we're getting take-out. Ugh, that's hard to admit. However, if I have leftovers then it's smooth sailing - healthy dinner, happy me.
2) Sometimes a short walk or time outside would suit my 'actual' needs better than a snack. Fresh air is always good for my soul.
3) I like having a sit-down lunch - even if it takes 10 minutes or less to eat. I feel more satisfied and grounded, which then sets me up for feeling good the rest of the day. Snack lunches, grabbing things to eat in the car between appointments, or skipping lunch all together does not set me up for feeling my best the rest of the day.
After this exercise I am a bit clearer about what's not working for me right now, and I have a few ideas about how to make small changes that will help me pivot towards the person I want to be. I'll probably do this again in a few months, and my guess is I'll notice different things.
Now it's your turn. If you tried this exercise look back over your notes. What's working well for you? What could you try doing differently next week that will help you make healthy simple in your world? Only you know what this is; there isn't one magical way that works for everyone.
Action step: First review what's working - and celebrate those wins! Now, look at what's standing in the way of healthy being simple for you each week. Choose one thing and decide to pivot. What does that look like? I would love to hear.
